Kalau pernah mendengar cerita Alice in wonderland… yang satu ini cerita tentang Broek in Waterland.Tapi Broek bukan gadis kecil berambut pirang seperti Alice. Broek adalah nama desa kecil nan-cantik, Broek in Waterland 52°26′N, 4°60′E adalah desa di propinsi North Holland, dengan penduduk sekitar 2350 jiwa. Letaknya hanya 8km Northeast Amsterdam.

Dulunya sih (sekitar abad ke 17-18) desa ini terkenal sebagai pemukiman para pelaut kaya dari Amsterdam. Makanya kebanyakan dari rumah-rumah didesa ini di bangun sebelum tahun 1850 ini tidak ada yang sama satu sama lainnya. Seperti desa kecil dengan rumah villa mungil. rumah-rumah dengan style yang berbeda dengan desa-desa sekitarnya ini sampai sekarang masih tetap mempertahankan design aslinya – yang menggunakan bahan kayu, Echt prachtige Huizen. Bener-bener deh rasanya saya pengin pindah ke desa Broek in Waterland ini. Desa kecil, cantik, dengan warna dominasi warna pastel untuk rumah2nya dan yang paling penting desa ini sangat bersih. hhhmmm… apa kah sudah waktunya untuk melihat site-makelar rumah???

Kalau sudah masuk musim semi seperti ini, selain bisa kita keliling dengan sepeda atau jalan kaki, kita juga bisa nyewa kano dan berkano-ria mengelilingi Broek in Waterland … kalau ada tenaga bisa nyebrang ke London.

Ada satu gereja didesa ini yang di bangun sebelum tahun 1400 yang pada saat itu di dedikasi-kan untuk Saint Nicolas.Semasa perang tahun 1573 Gereja ini terbakar dan di bangun kembali oleh penduduk setempat (Broekers) pada tahun 1628 dengan fondasi gedung yang lama.

The borough is a combination of well-known villages of which a good number stand on the Zuiderzee. Inland there stands Broek in Waterland. Traces of one of the richest women of the 17th century Netherlands East India Company era, Neeltje Pater, can still be found in and around the church. Many houses from that time with grey painted wooden facades have been preserved. In the middle of the countryside there stand the old reclamation villages of Ilpendam, Watergang and Zuiderwoude. The Waterland nature area is an important breeding site for meadow and marsh birds.Biking to Broek in Waterland from Amsterdam – follow the Volendam Route.Start your morning at 11 a.m. from Amsterdam get our bikes fitted and ready, and head off for the ferry across the Het IJ to North Holland.

We’ll enter the region – Waterland – and follow the cycle path along the Zeedijk passing old gabled houses in Durgerdam, Uitdam and to the former island of Marken – with its 13th century wooden houses and townspeople dressed in traditional costume.

We follow the inland sea to charming Monnickendam (scroll down to read the article) – boasting a beautiful harbor where its oldest trade, shipbuilding, is still thriving.

Pedaling still north along the water, we’ll stop by Katwoude to visit a working mill and a cheese farm to see how cheese is made.

Time permitting we will head east to visit Broek in Waterland and then across the Purmer Polder into Volendam.
